Abstract:

Recently, Iwata, Kawasaki and Shigesada proposed a dynamical model for the growth and size distribution of multiple metastatic tumors [J. theor. Biol., 203, 177--186 (2000)], which is based on von Foerster’s equation from population dynamics. In the seminar we reformulate the model from a mathematical point of view and give an existence results using the method of characteristics and standard theory for linear integral equations. A dimensionless form of the model shows that it contains some interesting short and large-time asymptotics.
